Extra View / XtraView FAQs

What is XtraView and how does it work?
XtraView lets you link two or three decoders on one DStv subscription, so you can watch different channels in different rooms without paying for separate accounts. It's ideal for Hermanus family homes and guest cottages where the lounge, main bedroom and braai room all want their own TV.
How many rooms can I connect with XtraView?
You can link up to three decoders in total on a single subscription, giving you three viewing points around the house. Larger Overberg holiday homes and B&Bs in areas like Vermont or Onrus often use the full three-decoder setup to cover multiple bedrooms and living areas.
Can I mix an Explora and older decoders on XtraView?
Yes — you can link an Explora as your primary decoder with additional decoders as secondaries, as long as they're all on the same account. When we install in Hermanus we check that your existing boxes are compatible and configure the primary/secondary link correctly.
Is XtraView good for a holiday home or guesthouse?
It's one of the most popular setups for Walker Bay holiday rentals, letting guests in different rooms watch independently on one bill. We can wire multiple points during the build and set up the links so the whole property is covered before your season starts.
Do I need extra cabling for a multi-room setup?
Usually yes — each additional decoder needs a cable run from the dish's multiswitch to the room, which we plan to keep tidy and hidden where possible. In older Hermanus homes with solid walls we route cabling carefully, and our team can also fix or extend existing points.
Is there an extra monthly cost for XtraView?
DStv charges a small additional access fee per extra linked decoder on your subscription, but it's far cheaper than running separate accounts. The installation itself is a once-off — contact us for a quote on linking your rooms in and around Hermanus.
