Do I need a monthly subscription for OpenView in Hermanus?
No. OpenView HD is a free-to-air service, so once we install the decoder and dish there are no monthly subscription fees for the channels — you only pay for the equipment and installation. It's a popular choice for holiday homes in Hermanus that sit empty part of the year, since there's nothing to keep paying while you're away.
How is OpenView different from DStv?
DStv is a subscription service with ongoing monthly fees, while OpenView HD is a once-off setup that gives you 100+ free channels with no recurring bill. Many Overberg households run both, or switch to OVHD to cut costs; we can advise on the right fit and even install both dishes on one
visit.
Can I use my existing DStv dish for OpenView?
In many cases the existing dish can be repurposed, but OpenView uses a different satellite and LNB alignment, so the dish usually needs re-pointing and a compatible LNB fitted. Our installers assess your current setup on site and reuse what we safely can to keep costs down.
Is OpenView equipment suitable for the coastal salt air here?
Salt-laden air along Walker Bay accelerates corrosion on brackets, cabling and LNBs, so we fit marine-grade mounts and weather-seal all connections to extend the life of your OVHD install. This is especially important for seafront homes in Hermanus and Onrus where exposure is highest.
Will OpenView work during load-shedding?
The decoder and dish themselves draw very little power, so a small UPS or inverter easily keeps your OVHD viewing running through load-shedding. We can advise on a simple backup setup so your Overberg home keeps signal when the grid drops.
How long does an OpenView installation take?
A standard single-decoder OVHD installation in the Hermanus area typically takes a couple of hours, including dish mounting, alignment, cabling and channel scanning. For multi-room or awkward mounting jobs it can take longer —
