DStv Installation Cost in Hermanus: 2026 Price Guide

"What will it actually cost?" is the first thing nearly everyone asks when they call us, and it is a fair question. This page sets out what a DStv installation in Hermanus really involves, what moves the price up or down, and how to avoid paying twice.

We work across Hermanus and the Overberg, from Onrus and Sandbaai through to Voelklip and Fernkloof. The guide figures below are typical market ranges for Hermanus at the time of writing. They are not a quote: the only accurate price is one given after we know what your property needs.

What a standard DStv installation in Hermanus includes

A "standard" install is a single decoder, one TV point, on a house where the dish can go somewhere sensible with a clear view of the satellite. That normally covers:

• The satellite dish and bracket, mounted and sealed
• The LNB (the arm on the front of the dish that picks up the signal)
• Coaxial cable run from dish to decoder, clipped and tidied
• Wall plate and connectors at the TV point
• Dish alignment with a signal meter, not by eye
• Decoder setup, activation and a walkthrough so you know how it works

If you want the detail of exactly how we do that, it is on our new DStv installation page.

DStv installation price ranges in Hermanus

Across South Africa in 2026, published installer pricing generally falls in these bands. Treat them as a sanity check, not a fixed rate card:

Two honest notes. First, the decoder itself is usually a separate cost from the installation labour, and a lot of confusion comes from quotes that blur the two. Ask any installer to split equipment from labour. Second, a price that looks far below everyone else usually means something has been left out, most often the proper sealing and cable management that stops you calling again in eight months.

What pushes the price up in Hermanus specifically

Hermanus sits right on Walker Bay, so two things attack a satellite installation here: the south-easter that comes through in summer, and salt air that never really lets up. That has a direct effect on cost here:

Access and roof height

A single storey in Sandbaai with an easy roof is quick. A double storey in Onrus, or a property where the only clear line of sight is on the far side of the house, takes longer and needs more cable. Longer cable runs are the single most common reason a quote comes in above the base rate.

Marine-grade fittings

Standard galvanised brackets rust out fast in Walker Bay wind and salt air. We fit stainless or properly treated hardware and seal every connector. It costs a little more on day one and saves a full refit within two years. If you have ever seen a rust-streaked dish bracket on a Hermanus roof, that is the cheap option two winters later.

Multi-room and guest accommodation

A lot of properties in Hermanus are holiday homes or guest houses with three or four TVs. That is not a standard install, it is a distribution job. See Extra View setup for linked rooms on one subscription, or communal systems where several units share one dish.

Where people waste money

• Paying for a new dish when the existing one is fine and only needs realigning
• Buying a decoder online that does not suit the setup, then paying for a workaround
• Cheap installs with unsealed connectors, which fail in the first wet season
• Running a second cable to another room instead of a proper Extra View link
• Ignoring a slowly degrading signal until the LNB corrodes and the whole run needs replacing

If your picture is already breaking up, our signal repair page covers what usually causes it and what a repair involves.

How to get an accurate number

Tell us four things and we can normally give you a firm price on the phone:

• Do you already have a dish, and roughly how old is it
• How many TVs do you want working, and in which rooms
• Single storey or double storey, and is the roof easy to reach
• Which part of Hermanus or the Overberg you are in

A worked example, start to finish

To make the numbers concrete, here is how a typical job in Hermanus actually runs. Say a three bedroom house in Onrus, no existing dish, one TV in the lounge and the owner later wants a second in the main bedroom.

The site visit

We look for the satellite arc first. That decides everything else: where the dish goes, how far the cable has to run, and whether we need a pole, a wall bracket or a gable mount. Five minutes with a compass and a meter saves an hour of rework.

The install

Bracket up and sealed, dish mounted, LNB fitted, cable run and clipped, wall plate in, decoder connected and activated. We align with a meter to a level that leaves headroom, not to the minimum that happens to work on a clear afternoon.

The handover

We show you the signal reading, explain what it means, and make sure you can actually work the remote before we leave. That last part sounds trivial and it is the thing people thank us for most.

Adding the second room later

That is an Extra View job: a second decoder linked to the same subscription plus a cable run. Much cheaper than a second account, and cheaper again if we run the cable during the first visit while the ladder is already up. If you think you will want another room within a year, say so on day one.

Repair costs versus replacement

People often assume a failing setup means starting over. Usually it does not:

The genuinely expensive scenario is a full replacement, and it is rarer than people expect. Our repairs page explains how we diagnose before quoting.

Seasonal timing

A practical tip for Hermanus: get work done before the windy season rather than during it. Everyone calls at once after the first big blow, and that is exactly when every installer in the area is booked solid. A pre-season check on an older dish is cheap insurance.

What we will not do

• Quote a firm price without knowing what the property needs
• Sell you a new dish when the existing one only needs an LNB and alignment
• Leave connectors unsealed to save ten minutes
• Recommend Ultra if your internet cannot carry it
• Disappear after the invoice

What is included, and what is genuinely extra

Confusion about scope causes more disputes than price does. As a rule:

If a quote does not make that split clear, ask. It is the fastest way to find out whether you are comparing like with like. More on picking well in our guide to choosing a DStv installer in Hermanus.

Payment, guarantees and what protects you

Reasonable practice looks like this: a firm quote before work begins, payment on completion rather than fully up front, an invoice with the company name on it, and a written workmanship warranty of around twelve months. Equipment carries its own manufacturer warranty on top.

Full payment demanded up front, in cash, with no paperwork, is the pattern behind almost every complaint we hear about other installers. It is not that deposits are unreasonable on larger jobs, it is that no paperwork means no recourse.

Budgeting for a property with several TVs

A house in Hermanus with three or four TVs is common, especially holiday properties. Rough shape of that budget:

• One main installation with dish, LNB and first TV point
• One additional decoder per extra room, linked on Extra View
• Cable run per additional room, which is the variable that moves most
• Optional: wall mounting per TV, and concealed cable if you want it neat

Doing all of it in one visit is meaningfully cheaper than adding rooms one at a time over two years, because the access, the ladder work and the travel happen once. If you know the plan, tell us the whole plan. There is more on multi-room properties in our holiday home and guest house guide.

If you are comparing DStv against the alternatives

It is a fair question, and the answer depends entirely on what you watch. If live sport matters, DStv is still the practical option. If you mostly watch news and general entertainment, OpenView costs nothing monthly after installation and covers a lot of ground. We go through the trade-offs in our guide to choosing a decoder.
