Quick answer: At the time of writing (October 2026), the DStv online store lists the HD Single View decoder at R299, the Explora 3B at R1,499 and the Explora Ultra at R2,999. PEP's online store lists the DStv HD 10S at R499. Those prices are for the box only. An Explora also needs a Smart LNB on the dish, and installation is a separate cost that depends on your roof and cable run.
The DStv decoder price Hermanus shoppers see on the shelf is only half of the story. The other half is on your roof. This guide gives you the real October 2026 prices, explains what changes between PEP, Game, Makro and the DStv store, and shows what a proper installation adds on the Walker Bay coast.
It usually goes like this. A family drives down for a long weekend, picks up a new decoder in town, and plugs it in at the holiday house that evening.

The box powers up. The setup screen runs. Then it stops with a signal error, or it works but will not record. By Saturday morning the rugby is about to start and nobody knows if the decoder, the dish or the cable is at fault.
We see this in Voelklip, Westcliff and Sandbaai every holiday season. Most of the time the decoder is fine. The problem is an old LNB, a corroded connector or a dish that the south-easter has nudged off target.
That is why our Hermanus DStv installers always talk about two numbers. One is what you pay at the till. The other is what it costs to make that box work on your particular roof. If you know both before you shop, you only pay once.
These are the DStv decoder prices on the official DStv store at the time of writing (October 2026). The store shows most decoders at a reduced price next to an earlier listed price.

This is the basic box. It shows live channels in HD, has an 8-day TV guide and parental control, and can be linked to other decoders with XtraView.
It cannot record or pause live TV. For a holiday flat that only needs the news and the sport, it does the job.
The 3B pauses live TV for up to two hours and records up to 110 hours. It has Catch Up, BoxOffice and series recording.
It is HD, not 4K, and it needs WiFi to get online. The DStv store notes an Access Fee of R125 per month payable with an Explora decoder.
The Ultra records the same 110 hours and adds built-in WiFi, a selection of streaming apps, and support for 4K, HDR and Dolby Atmos. App subscriptions such as Netflix are paid separately.
Our Explora installation service covers the Smart LNB, setup, WiFi and a full walkthrough of the remote, so the extra features actually get used.
Most people search for the price at PEP first, then Game, then Makro. Here is what we could confirm at the time of writing (October 2026).
PEP's online store lists the DStv HD 10S decoder at R499. We found no Explora or Explora Ultra in PEP's online DStv range.
That R499 is higher than the R299 on DStv's own store for its HD Single View decoder. So the best DStv decoder price is not always found at the cheapest shop.
Game and Makro both sell DStv hardware, but we could not confirm their current DStv decoder prices online at the time of writing. Their stock and promotions change from week to week.
Before you drive in from Fisherhaven or Stanford, phone the store and ask three things:
Compare like with like. A decoder-only price should be measured against another decoder-only price, never against a bundle.
If you are unsure which box suits your household, our guide on choosing the right DStv decoder walks through each option in plain terms.
A decoder needs a dish, an LNB, sound cable and an accurate signal to work. If any of those is missing or tired, the DStv decoder price on the shelf is not the full cost.

Here are the starting prices on our own price list. Equipment costs are additional, and the final figure depends on your property.
| Job | Our starting price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Basic installation | From R800 | Single view HD decoder with dish, bracket and 15m RG6 cable |
| Explora setup | From R2,200 | Explora or Explora Ultra with full installation and configuration |
| Extra View | From R1,800 | Multi-room setup with an extra decoder and cabling |
| Repairs and call-out | From R550 | Diagnostic visit, signal testing, LNB or cable repair, realignment |
For a house with no dish at all, our new DStv installation service covers the dish, bracket, cabling, TV point and activation in one visit.
The full breakdown of ranges is in our DStv installation cost guide.
Every Explora needs a Smart LNB on the dish. Many older homes around Hermanus still have the single LNB that came with an HD decoder years ago.
If you buy an Explora for a house like that, the box cannot do its job until the LNB is changed. Our article on whether you need a Smart LNB shows you how to tell from the ground.
Salt air off Walker Bay eats cheap brackets and open connectors. We use marine-grade fixings and seal every outdoor joint.
It adds a small amount to the job. It also stops the green, crusty connector that kills the signal two winters later.
Not sure what your roof needs before you buy?
WhatsApp us a photo of your dish and the back of your current decoder. We will tell you if the LNB and cable are ready, and give you a clear price before you spend a cent at the till.
The lowest DStv decoder price is not always the best value. The right decoder depends on how the house is used.
Moving from an old box to a newer one? Our step-by-step guide to a DStv decoder upgrade from HD to Explora Ultra covers the swap in detail.
Want a second TV in the main bedroom or a guest flat? A linked decoder costs far less than a second account. See how DStv Extra View setup works before you buy two boxes.
This is the order we suggest to every caller. It keeps the decoder price and the installation price in the right sequence.
If you would rather hand over the whole job, our local DStv installers in Hermanus can supply the decoder, fit it and activate it in one trip.
Local tip: Load shedding and summer lightning are hard on decoders along the coast. Plug the decoder and TV into a good surge protector before you switch on, so the new box is not the next casualty.
Run through this list at the till or before you order online. It takes two minutes and saves a second call-out.

DStv recommends that installations are done by accredited installers. It lists a 3-month warranty on workmanship and a 12-month warranty on equipment.
Whatever box you choose, a meter-tested signal is what makes it work. That is the job we do every week across Hawston, Fernkloof and the rest of the Overberg, and it is the heart of our DStv installation in Hermanus.
Bought your decoder already? Let us get it working.
We fit, align and activate DStv decoders across Hermanus, Onrus, Sandbaai, Stanford and Kleinmond. Same-day slots where the schedule allows.
Shop with both numbers in mind. A sensible decoder price plus a properly sealed installation will give you years of trouble-free TV by the sea.
At the time of writing (October 2026), PEP's online store lists the DStv HD 10S decoder at R499. We did not find an Explora in PEP's online DStv range. Branch stock can differ, so phone your nearest store before you go.
The HD Single View is the cheapest decoder. The DStv online store lists it at R299 for the decoder only at the time of writing (October 2026). It shows live TV but cannot record.
Usually not. Most shelf prices are for the decoder only. DStv's store does list an HD Single View with installation at R499, so read exactly what any bundle covers before you compare.
The DStv online store lists the Explora Ultra at R2,999 for the decoder only at the time of writing (October 2026). It also needs a Smart LNB on the dish and carries a monthly Access Fee of R125.
Yes. You can buy the decoder on its own if your home already has a working dish. For an Explora, the dish must have a Smart LNB, and the cable must be in good condition.
Not always. Game and Makro set their own prices and run their own promotions. Compare the exact model and whether the price is decoder only before you decide.
